Not trying to overreact, but here's the story so far. I suspect it is greatly exaggerated, but still ...
The former Wham! singer, 46, allegedly drove his £80,000 silver Range Rover at high speed into the truck on the A34 near Newbury,
Lawrie Rowe, 43, who was driving the seven-ton Volvo 440, told The Sun: "He must have been doing 100mph. When he got out he couldn't walk straight."
Mr Rowe, of
"It must have been doing about 100mph and was weaving all over the place as if it was overtaking and undertaking. It smashed into the back of my cab and I felt a hell of a thump.
"His car went spinning across the outside lane and into the central barrier before bouncing back into my cab. He then hit the barrier again."
The singer only recently got his licence back after a two-year ban for drug-driving in 2007, when he was found slumped behind the wheel of his car on Cricklewood, North-West London.
Mr Rowe, who was driving in a three-truck convoy from
"There was no movement from his car for what seemed like 10 minutes. I was really shaken and thought someone had died," he said.
According to Mr Rowe, the Range Rover's bonnet was sticking up while all the windows were shattered.
"Eventually the guy got out of his car. He came over to my cab and asked if I had stopped to give him a lift. I was stunned.
"He was absolutely not with it, so I told him no. But he insisted and came around the other side of the truck and tried to get in the passenger door.
"When it finally dawned on him that i wouldn't give in, he walked off down the verge."
Police arrived to breathalyse both men, which proved negative. Drug tests carried out on the singer at a police station also proved negative. He was subsequently released at 6am.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "The driver of a Range Rover, a 46-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of being unfit through drink or drugs. He was later released without charge. The road was closed until 3.20am."
A spokesman for Michael told the newspaper said reports he had been arrested were "rubbish".

Sounds like George was really lucky this time to have walked away. Next time he might not be.
I think he should leave the driving to someone else. Anyone know what form of transportation he used while his license was suspended?
He's rich enough that he can hire a driver fulltime around the clock. that's probably what he did when he had his license suspended ... or maybe he just moved back to Dallas during that suspension. whatever. he's an idiot and doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes. he's not only putting his life at stake, he's endangering others.
wouldn't be surprised is he showed up on some British talk show to explain himself yet again. on the other hand, since he has nothing to promote, he probably couldn't give a toss.
Sadly, I am not surprised at all. I figured he must have gotten his license back by now (as I say, I don't visit any other GM related sites anymore) and was kinda expecting this any day...
I have no sympathy for people like GM at all, my cousin and some of his friends were hit by a drunk driver on their way home one night, he was "fine", but one of his friends almost died. You say he was lucky to walk away...I say he was lucky that he "only" hit a truck, and not a person.
I sometimes wonder what this "behavior" must do to Kenny and GM's friends and family...
@ AnaG: Exactly. I recall he got his license back less than 6 monthes ago so it's especially disturbing that he's already gotten in an accident.
I'm a little less judgmental now that I'm thinking, maybe he has a death wish subconsciously. But surely there are ways of killing yourself without endangering others.
Damn lucky he was driving his Range Rover (or 'Chelsea Tractor' as we call them in London, LOL!) and not his little tin can Ferrari...the story might have ended very differently! Get a damn chauffeur George!!
what the fuck is he doing? that was my first reaction the other night when the news came out. i mean, how many car accidents can a guy have before his luck runs out? anyone out there keeping count?
I swear, he's turning into Keith Richards driving-wise. Richards used to get into accidents all the time and has totalled many a car in his day. But that was when he was in his 20s. As far as I know, he's been a lawful driver ever since (driving his daughters to school and all that).
As a total non sequitur, I will add that George Michael's autobiography has been delayed. Surprise surprise. Meanwhile, Keith Richards autobiography is right on schedule and is due to come out 2010.
well he's been in 3 accidents now..and you know what they say after strike 3... i too believe George has a subconcious death wish..
can't understand why though? if i were in his shoes i'd be basicly a pretty happy indiviual...
On a side-note: You say that he might have moved to Dallas while his license was suspended. Does that mean that your licenses only ever gets suspended in one country, and you can still drive in other countries? *is confused*
Wow, I've often thought the same thing...that George has an unconscious death wish.
I think his irresponsible actions speak volumes about his state of mental health these days. Unless something is done to intervene, I don't see how George can escape from doing this kind of thing again (and again).
He's traveling down that well-worn crooked path where so many celebrities who've gone before him have blazed a path of destruction.
And yet no one in his life feels compelled to impact the situation (either that or they've been largely ineffective so far).
Who in his life keeps enabling him?
Who keeps enabling him? Many have suggested Kenny, his boyfriend. Either he just doesn't give a shit (keeping in mind who wears the pants around the house) or his interventions/pleadings have not been successful. Or maybe a little of both. But I find it hard to imagine George Michael taking lectures or advice from anyone. He's a stubborn one and nobody tells him what to do if they want to remain in his life.
Adding to what I just said directly above, I should add that GM's situation is exacerbated by the fact that he's a solo artist, beholden to nobody. I mean, even Keith Richards had to quit heroin once he saw it was endangering the future of the Rolling Stones. As KR said on 60 MINUTES, to paraphrase: "This was no longer my private concern ... it was affecting everyone. I was letting the Stones down, which is unforgiveable to me."
I think if Andros was still in George's life none of this stuff would keep happening.
I think if George Michael's mother was still alive, none of this would be happening.
I totally agree! His mom meant everything to him.
But even so, before their falling out, Andros was the one who spent time with George in his day-to-day life and intercepted (according to him) many potential headline-garnering snafus.
I think George should start focusing on the people who are still in his life, instead of on those that aren't...
